Social housing tenants would be given a new 'right to move' anywhere in the country by Tory plans yesterday condemned as 'unworkable' by the sector.
Grant Shapps, shadow housing minister, said the policy could prove to be the most radical since the Conservatives allowed council housing tenants to buy their own homes 30 years ago.
By the proposals, tenants could demand that their social landlord sell the property and use the proceeds – minus transaction costs – to buy another building anywhere in the UK.
