Sales at WH Smith in the six months to February 28 fell from £771m to £721m as the retailer continued to move away from unprofitable entertainment sales to concentrate on three core areas: news and magazines; stationery and books. Daily Telegraph. Financial Times

High street like-for-like sales fell 6%. However, like-for-like sales in the smaller travel business, which covers airports, railway stations and motorway service stations, rose 4%. Like-for-like sales in entertainment plunged 36%.
WH Smith also announced plans to roll out 70 post office branches in store by the autumn of next year.
