Donald Trump’s plans for a £1bn golf resort in north-east Scotland have been overwhelmingly backed by a special meeting of Aberdeenshire council. Financial Times

George Sorial, spokesman for Trump said he was 'very pleased and very grateful' for the council’s backing and the support was a 'very big step in the right direction'.

Sorial had previously warned that failure by the council to endorse the plans could jeopardise the scheme.

Yesterday’s meeting was largely symbolic, however – the Scottish government last week said it would have final say on the application after it was rejected by a council committee.
