The United Arab Emirates yesterday withdrew from plans to join a Gulf monetary union after objecting to a decision to locate the central bank in Saudi Arabia.
A rift between the Arab world’s two largest economies emerged earlier this month when the member states of the Gulf Co-operation Council decided that Riyadh should host the body’s central bank, rather than the UAE.
