UK Coal has appointed Owen Michaelson, corporate development director of the Peel Holdings group, as a non-executive director.

The Peel Holdings group is a substantial shareholder of UK Coal.

Michaelson, who was elected to the main board of Peel Holdings in April this year, qualified as a surveyor in 1991 and trained with the Manchester Ship Canal Company, part of the Peel Ports Group.

He specialises in the redevelopment of brownfield land, waste management and power generation. He is a former chair of the RICS Waste Policy Panel.

David Jones, chairman of UK Coal, said: ‘His experience and skills are highly relevant to our business and we look forward to the contribution that he will make as a non-executive director as we continue to drive our strategy and realise the value inherent in our portfolio of businesses.’
