UK Coal has promoted its property director Jon Lloyd to chief executive.

Lloyd is to replace Gerry Spindler, who will step down from the board on 1 September and leave the group at the end of the year. Is it understood he wishes to return to the US.

Lloyd, 51, will become chief executive designate from 1 June and become chief executive of the group on 1 September.

Kevin Whiteman, chief executive of water services firm Kelda Group, will also join the board of UK COAL as a non-executive director on 1 June.

The appointment of Lloyd to chief executive affirms UK Coal’s strategy to place property at the heart of its business.

In an interview with Property Week in February, Lloyd said property was a ‘significant contributor’ to the profits of the company, as coal continued to dwindle as a resource.

UK Coal aims to become one of the largest developers of brownfield sites in the country.
