European data centre developer e-shelter has received planning permission for the largest campus-style data centre.

The facility is to be developed on a brownfield site at Saunderton near High Wycombe. The developer e-shelter completed the purchase of the 50 acre site this week through a joint venture with its funding partner, PFB Data Centre Fund.

Overall the data centre will be 829,000 sq ft in size with 400,000 sq ft available to let.

The site is second only to Europe’s largest data centre, e-shelter’s existing facility in Frankfurt.

The UK data centre will be built in four stages; the first stage of the development is scheduled to be completed by mid-2010.

Phillip Lydford, chief executive of e-shelter UK, said: 'e-shelter has worked closely with Wycombe District Council in the design and planning of the new facility, as it is important that we handle this development sensitively and, as far as possible, blend it into its rural surroundings.'

Arup Associates advised e-shelter.
