Student accommodation developer Unite Group has received planning consent for two new sites in London sites that will provide 355 student beds.

It is investing £57.5m developing 125 beds at 556 Holloway Road in Islington as well as bike storage, a common room, laundry and 1,200 sq ft of commercial space; and delivering 230 beds on London’s South Bank, which will also include 39,000 sq ft of office space and a 4,600 sq ft commercial unit as well as common rooms, laundry and bike storage.

Both schemes are due for completion in time for the start of the 2010/2011 academic year.

’London is a significant focus of Unite Group’s expansion programme, and will remain a key target for our future pipeline,’ said Unite’s regional design and planning director Jagdeep Bhogal.

‘As one of the most undersupplied student accommodation markets in the UK there is pent up demand for our modern purpose built, safe developments.'
