Urban Waterside has submitted a planning application for the first phase of the regeneration of the former Georgia Pacific paper mill site in Newcastle-under-Lynme.

The company plans to create an 82-bed Travelodge hotel and Lidl food store at the brownfield site which has been vacant since December 2006. It is also working up plans for further phases of the scheme. It follows a public consultation period.

HOW planning is advising Urban Waterside. Conor Vallelly, planner at HOW Planning, said: ‘The feedback from the public consultation process was extremely positive and I think many people are looking forward to seeing the transformation of this site.

'It occupies a highly sustainable location immediately adjacent to Newcastle Town Centre and on completion it will be a prominent gateway feature and landmark development.’
