Westminster Council unveils £150m 'alternative vision' for Oxford Street

Westminster Council piazza plans

Westminster City Council has unveiled its ‘alternative vision’ for Oxford Street including a central piazza having blocked the Mayor of London’s proposals to pedestrianise the street earlier this year.

The council said plans to make a stretch of Oxford Street between Orchard Street and Oxford Circus traffic free by December 2018 were “off the table for good” and council planning member Richard Beddoe has outlined new plans which will see WCC invest £50m a year for the next three years. Chief executive of the New West End Company, Jace Tyrrell, described the £150m commitment as “remarkable”.
