Wilson Bowden founder David Wilson, who sold his Leicestershire-based developer and housebuilder to Barratt for £2.2bn earlier this year, was last night crowned as the first Midlands Property Personality of the Year.

Wilson, who has spent 45 years in property and construction, accepted the prize in front of almost 1,000 people at a ceremony at Birmingham’s International Convention Centre last night.

He took the chance to thank Wilson Bowden employees, celebrate the work of the property industry, but also to criticise the Government’s approach to planning.

Other big winners at the event, organised by English Partnerships and Property Week, included:

Deal of the Year – Abstract Securities’ sale of Birmingham’s Colmore Plaza to Carlyle

Developer of the Year – Opus Land

Regeneration Development of the Year – Fort Dunlop, by Urban Splash

Office Agency Team and Industrial Agency Team – GVA Grimley
