One of the largest wrecking machines in Europe started tearing through the tallest building on the Olympic park site. The Times

The 50-tonne machine began demolishing a derelict 12-storey former University of East London building in Stratford, East London.

The space will link the Olympic village and velopark and connect venues, homes, schools and community facilities afterwards.

The Olympic Delivery Authority is nearly halfway through its massive demolition programme, with 106 buildings already cleared. It aims to have most of the 2.5 sq km (1.5 sq miles) park cleared and cleaned by next year’s Olympics in Beijing.
