WSP Group has signed up to move to 70 Chancery Lane for its new UK headquarters.

The engineering and design consultancy will move its base from nearby Holborn in January 2009.

It is planning to take the entire 57,000 sq ft building, which is being developed by Ebble Developments, the property company of the trustees of Lord Folkestone’s estate. It is thought to have agreed a rent of around £47.50/sq ft.

The listed company first went under offer on the building in August, but was rumoured to have pulled out earlier this month due to problems with the timing of the fit-out. However, the lack of available space in the Midtown market may have influenced its decision to re-start negotiations.

Chris Cole, chief executive of WSP, said: ‘Our new base in London will provide our corporate teams with state-of-the-art facilities for servicing our global network. Over the next year, we will be ensuring all the infrastructure is in place for a smooth transition between buildings.’

DTZ and BH2 are the letting agents at 70 Chancery Lane.
