Yo! Sushi entrepreneur Simon Woodroffe is to open his first Japanese-style capsule hotel at a British airport on 1 July. Financial Times

His first Yotel, which offers small, low-cost 'cabins' to travellers, will open at Gatwick, to be followed by a second at Heathrow in October. Woodroffe is negotiating with baa for a third at Stansted.

The rooms are 7 sq m and cost about £50 a night on the standard tariff. Gatwick has 46 cabins and the Heathrow branch 32.

Premium cabins, costing about £70 a night, boast a couch that turns into a bed at the touch of a button. Economy cabins planned for Stansted and costing about £25 a night are likely to have bunks.
