Property companies SEGRO, British Land, Hammerson and Landsec have agreed to join forces in quite possibly the biggest property merger of all time, Eye understands.
SEGROBritishHammerSec decided to come together at a board meeting between the head honchos of the four property giants.
Sources close to the 1 April deal said that the quartet spent a mere 10 minutes working out the financial details but a further five hours figuring out the name. A spokesperson for the new commercial property behemoth told Eye: “Look, is it the best name in the world? No. But are we happy that we came up with a brand that best reflects all our company values? Also no.”
One source close to SEGRO said: “My hope is that people will eventually get tired of saying SEGROBritishHammerSec and just wind up calling it SEGRO instead…”
