“I would walk 500 miles,” sang The Proclaimers. While the Scottish twins may have been employing a bit of poetic licence, a group of property industry velophiles really have cycled the near-500-mile trip from London to Glasgow.
The group, which includes fitness fanatics from Iceni Projects, SEGRO and Barratt Homes, are hoping to raise money for climate education charity Let’s Go Zero by cycling all the way to the host city of UN climate change conference COP26.
James Bompass, a director of Iceni Projects, told Eye: “They managed to survive the delights of the autumn British weather, the dwindling food supplies of Premier Inn up and down the country and – perhaps most courageously of all – a dubious Mexican meal in Kendal.
“The old cycling adage ‘may the wind always be behind you’ was never more apt the following morning…
“Having completed well in excess of 450 miles each, the team are now trying to find clean clothing to return to work with.”
