Love was in the air this week as, to tie in with Valentine’s Day, online property platform Boomin published research showing that houses on roads with Valentine’s Day-related names can sell for up to 29% above the national average house price.

Yes, love really does come at a price, it seems. According to Boomin, last year, the average price for homes sold on roads with ‘love’ in their names was £349,000 – compared with the current national average of £283,000. Houses on road names containing the words ‘flower’, ‘valentine’, ‘sweet’ or ‘heart’ also sold above the national average last year.

But before we get too gooey-eyed about house prices, it’s worth noting that houses on streets with ‘arrow’, ‘rose’, ‘kiss’ or ‘kissing’ all sold for below the national average in 2021.

So on the one hand we probably shouldn’t infer from this that we should all be moving to streets with love-related names or that BTR developers should consider more romantic scheme names. But on the other, a rose-related street by any other name might well smell as sweet.
