Finding innovative ways of luring customers away from online to physical shops is even more of a preoccupation for the retail industry after the events of the past couple of years.

Experiential leisure venues have been popping up in high streets and shopping centres all over the place and Eye can barely step out to buy a coffee without being tempted to throw an axe, don a VR headset or swing a golf club, it seems.

Festival Place in Basingstoke has a trampoline park and an escape room among its extra attractions, but is also going for a much more organic way of leading shoppers to the centre.

Following a successful trial, the mall has declared itself officially dog-friendly and over one-third of its 180 outlets will permit pooches. Eye sincerely hopes the centre’s BrewDog bar is one of these.

Festival Place is also embarking on a partnership with a local dog trainer to offer a three-week course for owners of puppies under 20 weeks old.

Perhaps its efforts to encourage good canine behaviour will bring the more reluctant tenants to heel, too.
