Our four-day escape from reality is now over. Mipim is finished, boohoo. It was fun while it lasted.
Soph and I wandered slowly up and down the Croisette, outside Caffé Roma, around the yachts, bumping into friends, old clients, hacks we hadn’t seen for ages. We chatted aimlessly. “Good to be back… Where are you going for lunch… Have you seen that the Russian pavilion has been taken over by Egypt…”
Of course, we all agreed that Ukraine was dreadful, but in the world of real estate life always goes on and there are always opportunities. This parallel universe was compounded by the organisers, whose email to attendees on Wednesday morning said one of the day’s “must-attend conference sessions” was ‘Welcome to the Metaverse’. Soph and I were unavoidably detained at our namesake restaurant, Pastis, which is still a delight.
We went shopping in Rue d’Antibes, but in a post-Covid-austerity mood (and a “let’s wait till next year when we’ve got more clients”) didn’t buy anything. We had a couple of clients in town but we didn’t have to do too much for them. One bit of filming with a European publication, one meeting with a journalist and that was it.
Today, we’re back home and away from the Cannes-do world of Mipim for another year.
