After seeing the BBC headline ‘Is your job at risk from AI?’, Soph and I were heartened to discover the answer is not yet. When we asked Google’s AI bot Bard to “write an amusing 250-word column on a UK real estate PR firm, called Pastis Communications, founded by Soph and Henrietta”, the result was quick but crap.
To be fair, though, we also asked Bard to draft a press release about one of our clients and it was really very good. Yikes.
The fact we are playing around with AI reflects the slowdown in work. Inevitable really in the current environment but still worrying.
On another note, Soph joked to me one afternoon “remember to charge up your phone” when I ordered an Uber. It can’t be true, surely, that ride-sharing apps will charge more for a person with a lower-battery-level phone, as the Belgian newspaper that no one had heard of, Dernière Heure, discovered?
Sneaky, like those firms, whom we’ve been wary of ever since they upset former clients during Covid by refusing to pay rent or those who were reported to be using technology for more dubious measures such as installing facial recognition cameras in stores and then allegedly using them to build “watchlists” of potentially dodgy customers. If Soph and I ever darkened their doors, we’d never be allowed back.
