Investec may be ruing the decision to bring its zebra mascot along to Property Week’s Student Accommodation Awards last week.
Before the event had even got under way, comedian and host Chris Ramsey was likening it to “the ultimate student traffic cone haul” and predicting that many would “ride the magic zebra” before the evening was out.
And so it came to pass… almost. After the awards had been handed out, drink had been imbibed and food consumed, it was only a matter of time before people were heading towards the awards partner’s zebra to have their photos taken. After several warnings were issued to people clearly pondering a more elevated position on the beast, the PW events team was forced to drag the poor zebra out of harm’s way… by its tail.
Metropolis would like to reassure readers that no zebras were harmed in the making of the awards. However, the zebra’s exit was as ungraceful as it sounds. And so were some of the shapes being thrown on the dancefloor during the ‘school disco’, as several older delegates channelled their student days with a wild array of funky chickens, running men and Shakira-style hip shakes. Yes, really…
