Then mayor of London Boris Johnson launched a £60m housing fund in an attempt to boost the number of homes for elderly and disabled people.
The Care and Support Specialised Housing (CASSH) Fund was launched in partnership with the Department of Health.
Johnson invited bids from a range of organisations that “championed innovative design, accessibility and new technology”.
In 2018, it was announced CASSH was being extended until 2021 with an extra £76m of yearly funding. By 2018, some 3,300 homes had been built by housing providers taking advantage of the scheme.
