Birmingham City Council’s planning committee unanimously approved proposals to develop the 2022 Commonwealth Games athletes’ village in Perry Barr.

The landmark plans included converting the site into a scheme comprising social housing for sale and private rental homes and a retirement village after the games, demolishing a number of existing Birmingham City University campus buildings at the site.

The 1,400-home athletes’ village was devised to house 6,500 athletes during the Games, which successfully played out over the summer of 2022, with 11 days of sport.
