Fears were growing over what Property Week called an “escalating political situation” in Ukraine, with property sector figures expressing grave concern over Russian troops massing on the country’s eastern border.
The conflict led to the fast tracking of the establishment of a Register of Overseas Entities for foreign property owners, dubbed a crackdown on ‘dirty’ Russian money in British property.
The deadline to sign up for the register passed in January, but the owners of 52,000 UK properties are still unknown after thousands of offshore companies failed to comply.
