Waterside project gears up for next stage in Chesterfield

Chesterfield Waterside CGI

The £340m Chesterfield Waterside development, which is intended to transform an unloved 60-acre site north of Chesterfield town centre into a vibrant new mixed-use community, has proved a slow-burner.

The development – which is a joint venture between Bolsterstone Group, Arnold Laver and Chesterfield Borough Council – comprises six neighbourhoods around a new canal basin. The plans were first unveiled in 2006 but more than a decade later, very little has been completed.

Now, with the promise of getting spades in the ground, could the site start to fulfil its potential?
