So we did it! The CBRE Property Week Great Property Ride took place last week through the Surrey Hills and was the best yet.

CBRE Great Property Bike Ride 2015

Over 600 cyclists joinied us from companies across the property sector, with a record number of women taking part, and so far, more than £40,000 has been raised for our charity partner, Shelter. The day was terrific and it was with great relief that we had blue skies and sunshine, and that my bike worked thanks to a last minute dash to Bicycle in Richmond to fix my gears!

We started off at Denbies Vineyard having gathered to adorn bikes and helmets with our rider numbers and grabbed our event shirts. Then, after a short wait at the start gate listening to fellow riders tales of PBs on Box Hill or the inclines of Leith Hill, we were off. The camaraderie through the ride was fantastic, and definitely helped on the long hill of White Down. There is no doubt that the ride is tough – and in fact, despite doing 52 km more at the weekend for the Ride 100, it only took me half an hour more than the 100 miles of the Great Property Ride. But, the constant chat and of course the competition with fellow riders kept me going and it was great to speak to so many who were pedaling the hills for the first time.

While the ride was punishing, there were no accidents but a fair few broken chains, gears, punctures and even handlebars falling off. The fantastic support of UK Cycling Events and the mobile mechanics meant the interruption was minimized and riders were able to crack on. Piling down the hills then struggling up through the climbs. Whether 25, 50 or 100km the ride was tough and the finishing line welcomed by each and every rider. Particularly because of the amazing welcome given by the support team at Shelter who clapped everyone in.

We celebrated the end with a post ride barbecue and drink in the sun listening to a great band. A massive thank you to all involved including Shelter, Denbies Vineyard and our media partner, Property Week. We’ve made the Great Property Ride the largest property bike ride in the world and every year I am delighted by how many take part, give up their time and raise money for a fantastic cause. I hope we can inspire even more of you to take part next year.
