Deloitte’s head of real estate corporate finance advisory, Robin Priest, is to leave the accounting giant.

Priest – former chief executive and founder of Mapeley – will leave his role as partner in the team on 31 May.

Priest said: ‘I think this is a time of unprecedented opportunity in the real estate market and I would like to be a principal. ‘The real estate industry is completely restructuring, not only deleveraging and this will gather pace over the next 12 months.

‘Working for one of the big four [accountancy practices] you are not allowed to invest because this could be a conflict. In this market, I feel like this is a constraint.’

He said at this point he could not comment further on what his future plans were but it is thought that any new venture will be attached to capital and is unlikely to be a return to the outsourcing world of his old firm, Mapeley. He will continue to work as a consultant for Deloitte on some ongoing projects.
