The Wood Wharf Consortium has submitted plans to the local council for a major new waterside development next to Canary Wharf.

The developers want Wood Wharf to continue the growth of Canary Wharf and plan for the 17 acre site to be a mix of residential and commercial development.

The scheme is being developed by the Wood Wharf Limited Partnership (WWLP), a joint partnership between British Waterways, Ballymore Properties and Canary Wharf Group.

The group submitted plans for 4.9m sq ft of offices and 1,668 homes to Tower Hamlets council this week.

Jason Larkin, Wood Wharf’s executive director of planning said: ‘This will be one of the UK’s largest mixed use developments. Our vision is to create a new world-class business and residential urban quarter set within an exciting waterside setting.’

He said the buildings would also be sustainable, and would include ‘eco-islands’ and nature walks.
