Tesco has today submitted a planning application to develop a ‘green’ scheme at a former Ministry of Defence site in Tolworth, west London

As revealed in Property Week (21.10.05), Tesco is planning its greenest development yet – a mixed-use residential, retail and community development – using the combined heat and power technology to capitalise on the complementary uses across the site, resulting in significant energy savings and reductions in CO2 emissions.

The development, known as the Bridge, includes a Tesco store, 662 new homes, including a 50% affordable quota, community facilities and a ‘Green’ bridge.

The proposals will also create a link between the station and the Tolworth Broadway via a landscaped walkway over the A3, which will encourage Tesco shoppers to use the Broadway’s shops and facilities.

The development team includes architect Building Design Partnership and GL Hearn as planning consultant.
