Housing association L&Q is in final stages of talks to acquire Trafford Housing Trust to kickstart a £4bn programme to build 20,000 homes in north-west England.

As both companies are charities the tie-up does not involve a payment, bit L&Q, formerly known as London & Quadrant, will give THT £25m over five years to refurbish its housing stock and set up a charitable foundation. The acquisition is expected to complete in June.
