The competition watchdog has launched an investigation into the £1.4bn takeover of student accommodation group Liberty Living by the sector’s biggest player Unite.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) could decide to block the takeover if its investigation concludes the deal would prove anti-competitive and result in higher prices for students seeking digs.
