Discount Geman food retailer Aldi was given the go-ahead for a store in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire yesterday.

The development, to be built on Harlaw Road in the Scottish town, will include a16,867 sq ft Aldi supermarket, a 9,483 sq ft retail unit and 138 car parking spaces.

Members of Garioch Area Committee approved Aldi’s proposal for the development on the former Loco Works site on Harlaw Road this week.

Aldi property director David Grant said: ‘We have worked closely with both Aberdeenshire Council’s planning officers and the committee to ensure we create a modern development that both compliments its surroundings and harnesses renewable energy.

The contemporary design of the building will be a valuable addition to the Town Centre and is similar to the stores built in Inverness and Wishaw where customers have commented on the design as a positive reason to shop there.’

A timescale for construction work has not yet been confirmed.
