Morrisons has signed a deal with Amazon to supply groceries to UK customers.

The deal will see Morrisons supply fresh, frozen and ambient goods to Amazon on a wholesale basis.

Hundreds of Morrisons goods will be available to UK customers using the Amazon Prime Now and Amazon Pantry services.

Amazon launched its Pantry service in the UK last year but until now has not offered fresh food.

David Potts, chief executive, said of the Amazon agreement:  “Today’s agreement is built on Morrisons unique strengths as a food maker. The combination of our fresh food expertise with Amazon’s online and logistics capabilities is compelling.

“This is a low risk and capital light wholesale supply arrangement that demonstrates the opportunity we have to become a broader business. We look forward to working with Amazon to develop and grow this partnership over the coming months.”

Morrisons also announced it had reached an agreement with existing partner Ocado, taking space in the online grocer’s new fulfilment centre in Erith.

The deal is subject to Morrisons achieving profitable growth online.
