US retail chain Best Buy has finally signed up for its first two stores in the UK.

It has signed up for 10 year leases for a 50,000 sq ft store at The Junction’s Thurrock Shopping Park in Essex and a 35,000 sq ft store at Prupim’s Hedge End Retail Park near Southampton.

It plans to open at least five stores in 2010.

The deals with Best Buy bring both parks to 100% let.

Jo Lord, director at The Junction, said: ‘The letting is a further example of The Junction’s proactive asset management initiative, which has brought the park to 100% let. It will serve to further extend the wide range of retail we have on offer at Thurrock Shopping Park when it opens in March 2010.’

Stephen Gwilliam, retail director of asset management at Prupim, said: ‘They are a new and exciting retail arrival for the British market, and their innovative approach will further drive footfall to the rest of the fully-let Hedge End Retail Park.’

Briant Champion Long advises Best Buy and Jones Lang LaSalle advised the Junction. Green & Partners advised Prupim.
