British luxury fashion group Burberry saw first-quarter revenue grow by 30% as a raft of new store openings boosted sales. Daily Telegraph. Financial Times

Having opened new shops in Antwerp, Bologna, Puerto Banus and Tampa, the company generated £167.5m of revenue in the three months to June, ahead of most City analysts’ expectations.

Only 8% of Burberry’s business is in the UK and its focus on the premium fashion market has insulated it from the downturn in consumer demand that has hit sales growth at Tesco and Marks & Spencer.

Burberry is to add 13 or 14 new stores every year, focusing particularly on the US.
