Carillion has won a £155m contract to develop the tallest residential tower in Europe – Lumiere in Leeds.

The construction company will build two high rise towers, one 55 storeys and one 32 storeys, for the joint venture between KW Linfoot and Fraser Property Group.

Tower One will house retail space on the ground and mezzanine levels with the remaining floors dedicated to private apartments.

The apartments have been designed by Philippe Starck, who is working on the scheme through YOO Holdings, the company he founded with John Hitchcox.

Tower Two will have retail on the ground and mezzanine floors, offices to floor ten and the remaining floors will be serviced and private apartments for people over 55.

The two towers will be linked by a private garden and car parking will be provided at three basement levels.

Defying the market

The Leeds residential market is suffering at the moment through a saturation of city centre apartments and the collapse of the buy-to-let market.

Construction of the buildings will take four years.
