Miller Mathieson is the new chairman of the SPF

Mathieson brings more than 30 years’ experience in the Scottish market and takes over from outgoing chairman Andrew Sutherland, the joint MD of Miller Developments.

He will be succeeded by Robin Blacklock, managing director of Dowbrae Property Consultancy, who was named vice-chairman of the SPF at the event last night.

In his opening speech at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, Mathieson said he was “honoured” to be named new chairman pledged to “press for joined up thinking across both the public and private sectors”.

Mathieson said his three main priorities were to push for investment into Scottish real estate, develop positive relationships with policymakers and encourage greater diversity.

Having been with CBRE for more than 21 years, Mathieson has worked on several significant developments including the sale of both Westway Park in Renfrew and EcoCampus in Hamilton as well as the acquisition of 229-249 Buchanan Street in Glasgow.

David Melhuish, director of the SPF, added: “We are very excited that Miller is taking up this new role as chairman of the SPF. I’ve worked very closely with Miller for many years and he is certainly someone knows every inch of Scotland’s real estate sector, from the challenges to the opportunities.

“Scottish real estate remains attractive to overseas investors, but longer-term political and economic uncertainty has the potential to impact investor appetite. We must act to counter any such loss of confidence, through retaining positive and stable legal and tax systems that support the sector as an attractive asset class in global terms.

“The SPF continues to bang the drum for the need to attract greater investment into Scotland’s real estate sector and there will be no greater champion for this than Miller Mathieson.”
