Central London office lettings slumped by almost a quarter between the first and second quarters of the year, research by Atisreal has said.

The latest research by the property consultancy showed a 22% drop between Q1 and Q2.

The results show a further 49% drop from the 2007 quarter two figures. In the City of London it said the vacancy rate rose from 6.2% to 6.7%, with 4.74m sq ft available in the City.

Figures from the West End show more promise, with a 14% increase in lettings from quarter one.

Total available space in the West End now stands at 2.6m sq ft, with prime rents at around £120/sq ft.

The head of national lettings and sales, Dan Bayley said the West End had a better quarter due to the lack of space available.

He also said prime city rents will fall by another 10% by the end of 2009.
