GVA Grimley chief executive Bob Barnett is to step down to focus on corporate recovery and insolvency work as part of a new structure at the firm.

He is returning to client-focused work after four years as chief executive at the same time as Grimley streamlines into six new business divisions. These are: capital markets; agency; business rates; planning and development; valuation; and building and project management.

Barnett will be replaced by a chairman, former KPMG executive Steve Halbert, with Malcolm Whetstone remaining as managing director. Barnett said: 'To carry out corporate recovery work you need to do it full time. I am looking forward to focusing on this in these unprecedented times.'
