City of London Corporation and Amazon go head to head to buy 42-acre Barking Power Station site in east London

The City of London Corporation and online retail giant Amazon are battling it out to buy the 42-acre Barking Power Station site in east London with a view to developing very different schemes, Property Week can reveal.

It is thought the City of London Corporation is in pole position to land the site, which it would use to consolidate its three food markets. However, Amazon is still in the running and is rumoured to be eyeing the site as the potential home of a four-storey distribution centre, which would be the first of its kind in the UK.
