Summix Capital’s 20,000 sq ft office scheme in Edinburgh’s Old Town has been given the go-head by Edinburgh City Council.
The developer plans to build the office at 179 Canongate in Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. The new building sits in a UNESCO World Heritage Site surrounded by the A-listed Canongate Kirk and Canongate Tolbooth.
The offices will have four floors at 5,000 sq ft each catering to small and medium enterprises. It will also provide a publicly accessible co-working space and a café for SMEs and freelancers. There will be on-site secure cycle storage and shower facilities and commercial space.
“We’re thrilled our application has been approved. These proposals will redevelop a vital location in the heart of the capital and help to tackle Edinburgh’s shortage of available office space provision,” said Stuart Black, development director at Summix Capital.
“As a coworking space, our development will offer an innovative and competitive solution while ensuring its green credentials are in line with the City of Edinburgh Council standards,” Black added.
