FTSE 100 holds on to last week's gains

The FTSE 100 held on to gains from before the bank holiday on Tuesday rising 0.6% over the day to 7,626.28 points.

The index was boosted by news of the strong stock rallies in the US with both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq indexes nearing record highs.
