Grainger Trust has submitted an outline planning application for a huge residential-led mixed-use scheme near Winchester.

The plans, which focus on the 208-acre (113-ha) West of Waterlooville Major Development Area (MDA), feature 1,550 mixed tenure houses and flats, a proportion of which will be affordable, shops, offices, a retirement village, land for a primary school, a community centre, GP surgery, allotments, a cemetery, open space and substantial recreation and play areas.

Designs have been drawn up by architects Fielden Clegg Bradley. A public consultation period will begin in September and it is anticipated that the application will be determined early in the New Year. If approval is granted, Grainger believed work could start on site as early as Spring 2007.

John Bateman, development director of Grainger, said: ‘Our aim is to create a great place to live and work; we believe our scheme, which is of regional, if not national significance, will add value and enhance the lifestyles of both existing residents and those who move into the area in future.’
