Hilson Moran’s new Manchester office has become the first building outside of London to be given the WELL top rating for health and wellbeing.

Located in Bruntwood’s Neo Building on Charlotte Street, it is the third to be officially WELL Certified Gold in the UK. The quality certification system was developed with scientists, healthcare and industry professionals to measures how a project’s design and operations can benefit occupants’ health and wellbeing.

The offices were rated on seven categories of building performance — air, water, light, nourishment, fitness, comfort and mind.

Work to improve the office environment has included reducing volatile organic compound (VOCs) emissions from fit-out materials and air quality is continuously monitored for indoor and outdoor air pollutants and CO2 levels.

The design consultancy firm has also trained its staff to enable their clients to join the rating scheme.

Chris Birch, director of sustainability at Hilson Moran, said: “We work with a variety of commercial clients on Wellbeing consultancy projects across the UK, but to be leading the charge in the North of England is brilliant and we hope other organisations follow suit as a result.”
