Inner Circle has been appointed as the preferred developer for Haringey Council's Hornsey Depot site.

The site will be developed for a Sainsbury's food store and private and affordable housing. The site comprises the former Hornsey Central Depot, coroner's court and mortuary, together with Sainsbury's adjoining land. The mortuary will relocate to a new site behind Bruce Castle museum in Tottenham.

Inner Circle will conduct a detailed public consultation before submitting a planning application. The deal is subject to a development agreement being reached and planning permission.

Cllr Charles Adje, cabinet member for resources, said: ‘This is an important development for Hornsey and will bring much-needed new jobs and homes to the area. It also represents a major boost to council resources as part of our ongoing programme to dispose of surplus sites to benefit taxpayers.
