Land Securities has submitted a planning application to Southwark Council for a mixed-use development in London.

The scheme, at 20 Blackfriars Road in Southwark, comprises a 23-storey office tower and a 42-storey residential tower of 286 homes, 119 of which will be affordable housing.

The base of the residential tower will incorporate 17,330 sq ft (1, 610 sq m) of ground-floor retail.

Wilkinson Eyre is the architect.

The site borders Blackfriars Road and Stamford Street and the proposals for the development take in the existing Rennie House and Wakefield House, while retaining the neighbouring grade II-listed buildings.

Mike Hussey, managing director of Land Securities’ London Portfolio, said: ‘Our plans for 20 Blackfriars Road are an excellent example of the new generation of mixed-use development in central London.

‘The scheme offers high-density living in a central location within an enviable setting of landscaped open spaces, with immediate access to the unique cultural attractions of the location.

'The scheme will also reinforce the commercial substance of the area.’
