A building on Oxford Street was the victim of vandalism it emerged today.

The Legal & General-owned building at 315-319 Oxford Street was vandalised in the early hours of Monday morning yesterday and, following an inspection, part of Oxford Street was closed in the afternoon.

The road has been reopened and the building has been secured.

A statement from L&G said: ‘Legal & General’s contractors have worked closely with the police to ensure that all precautions have been put in place to protect the safety of the public and the surrounding area. For this reason, Oxford Street and Dering Street were temporarily closed off yesterday at approximately 2.30pm, whilst thorough investigations were carried out on the structural security of the building.

‘The police are conducting a full forensic review of the crime scene and will be reviewing all CCTV within the area.’

The site is being redeveloped by L&G and the external façade is being retained while the building behind the façade has been knocked down as part of the new development.
