Standard Life Investments and Brighton & Hove City Council are expected to confirm Make architectural team as lead consultant of its design competition for the development of the Brighton Conference Centre next week.

The seafront convention centre forms a key part of Standard Life Investments’ regeneration scheme. It is also to develop an extension to the Churchill Square shopping centre and hotel.

Council leader Mary Mears said: ‘Make Architects has demonstrated that they will be able to deliver a world class development to live up to the council’s and Standard Life Investments’ aspirational vision for this highly sensitive and important site.

‘Delivery of a new convention centre has been a key economic priority for the city. It shows the major developers regard Brighton & Hove as a great place to invest.’
