Miller Argent has won planning permission for 988 acre regeneration project known as the Ffos-y-fran Land Reclamation Scheme in Wales.

Miller Argent the joint venture between Miller Investment, Argent Group and BJ Llewellyn had faced opposition for the Merthyr Tydfil scheme for the last two years.

Planning permission was originally granted by the National Assembly for Wales in April 2005 but it then faced local opposition.

This week the House of Lords rejected a petition that opposed the scheme and permission has been granted.

The jv plan to open cast mine the site and return it to working order. The mining will fund the high cost of restoring the site from its current state of disrepair.

DLA Piper's Leeds based planning team advised the joint venture.
