The city of Singapore unveiled plans to double the size of its central business district at the MIPIM conference in Cannes.

The plans, revealed by the country's Urban Redevelopment Authority, include adding 3m sq ft of office space to the existing business district around Raffles Place and Shenton Way. It is expected to double the size of Canary Wharf in the UK.

Choy Chan Pong, director at the Urban Redevelopment Authority said: 'Singapores strong economic fundamentals have been driving the growth of the property market, and the corresponding demand for quality office space for the last few years. To continue attracting investments we are planning ahead to ensure we have sufficient land and infrastructure to support our robust economic growth.'

Singapores economy grew by 7.7% in 2007. Its growth is expected to be 6% from this year.
